Starting a single-player game

Press Single Player in the main menu, pick a map (official or community), set the options, and start. You play under your account or guest name.

What you can set

• Map: any of the 50+ official maps or any community map.
• Difficulty of the AI nations and how many territories fill the map.
• Modifiers: fog of war, hotspots, instant build, infinite gold or troops for testing, random spawn, water nukes, no alliances, no nukes.

Pausing

Press P to pause and resume.

What to practise

• Spawn and the first two minutes: how fast can you reach 5%?
• Build orders: City → Port → Port → Factory vs alternatives.
• Nukes: blast sizes, SAM interception, the T overlay and the orange preview.
• Carriers: air raids on SAMs before a nuke.

Do I need an internet connection?

Conqora is a browser game served from conqora.io, so you need a connection to load it. There is no download to install. Single player is the mode that doesn't depend on other players: you play against AI nations and passive territories on your own schedule, and only single player can be paused. A practice plan for single player

Single player is the best training ground in the game because you can pause, restart and test any setup. Here's a simple plan that builds up skills in order.

1. Openings on a small map. Play the first two minutes five times in a row. Try different spawns and note how quickly you grow. See the best spawn location.
2. Attack ratio control. Practise switching ratios with Z/X. Troops regrow fastest at about 40% of your maximum, so keeping near that level while expanding is a skill worth drilling.
3. Build orders. Compare City first, Port first and Factory early. Watch your gold and troops at the five-minute mark.
4. Boats and the sea. Use B to send boats at the cursor. Remember up to three boats can be at sea at once, and they follow rivers.
5. Defence. Place Defense Posts on a chokepoint and see how much harder the land within 30 tiles becomes to take.
6. Nukes and SAMs. With the infinite gold modifier, build a silo and SAMs, press T to see SAM ranges and watch the aim turn orange under enemy SAM cover.
7. Carriers and air raids. Use an Air Raid (R) to destroy a SAM before you launch.

Using pause well

Press P at key moments: when a nation attacks you, when you're deciding where to place a building, or just before you launch a nuke. Look at the whole map, hold Space for the terrain view, and plan your next move. In multiplayer you don't get that luxury, so the habits you build while paused carry over.

Choosing settings

Common mistakes to practise away

• Attacking with everything. A huge attack ratio leaves your border empty and your troops regrowing slowly.
• Building too late. Gold sitting unspent is gold not earning; get your first City and Port down early.
• Silo on the border. Build your Missile Silo deep inside your land, where it's hardest to reach.
• Nuking into SAM cover. Check the T overlay first; an orange aim means enemy SAMs can intercept.

From single player to multiplayer

Once you can expand cleanly and defend a border, try a public quick game; one starts every few minutes on a rotating map. After that, play with friends in a private lobby or, with a free account, try ranked. See playing with friends and how ranked works.
