| Order | Building | Key | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | City | 1 | More troop capacity: your army grows bigger |
| 2 | Port | 3 | Trade ships: the biggest income |
| 3 | Port or Defense Post | 3 / 4 | Income on peaceful maps, a wall on crowded ones |
| 4 | Factory | 2 | Trains between your stations |
| 5 | City upgrades | middle click | Troop cap without the doubling price |
| 6 | Missile Silo | 5 | Your nuclear option, deep inside your land |
| 7 | SAM Launcher | 6 | Shoots down nukes and bombers |
Cities, ports and factories start at 125K and double with each one you own, capped at 1M. That makes upgrades (middle click on a building) the efficient way to grow once you have three or four of a kind: a level-2 city gives two cities' worth of troop capacity.
Once you have a Port you can build Warships (7) to guard trade and sink boats, and Aircraft Carriers (V), one per three port levels, for air raids (R) and nuke bombers (N).

Here is a standard opening on a coastal spawn, with the price of each building at the moment you buy it:
| Step | Building | Price | Running total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | City | 125K | 125K |
| 2 | Port | 125K | 250K |
| 3 | Defense Post | 50K | 300K |
| 4 | Second City | 250K | 550K |
| 5 | Second Port | 250K | 800K |
| 6 | Factory (counts your two ports) | 500K | 1.3M |
| 7 | Missile Silo | 1M | 2.3M |
| 8 | SAM Launcher | 1.5M | 3.8M |
Two details hide in this table. First, ports and factories count each other for pricing, so your first factory after two ports costs 500K, not 125K. Second, defense posts rise slowly (50K, 100K, 150K, 200K, then a 250K cap), so a second or third post on a hot border is cheap compared with anything else.
Some games start you rich (1M, 5M or 25M starting gold; territories don't get it). With 1M, you can buy City, Port, second City and second Port (750K) plus two defense posts (150K) straight away. With 5M, add a Factory, a Missile Silo and a SAM Launcher and still have change. Instant build removes construction time, so the order matters even more than the timing.
| Situation | Change to the standard order |
|---|---|
| Neighbour right next to you | Defense Post first, then City |
| Island or archipelago map | Two Ports before the second City |
| Hotspots mode | Take the nearest gold mine or oil field, post it, then City and Port |
| No ports modifier | City, Defense Post, Factory linking your cities |
| Teams | Spend less on posts along teammates' borders; build factories toward their stations |
| Ranked 1v1 | Defense Post facing your opponent early; the fight comes within minutes |
City 1, Factory 2, Port 3, Defense Post 4, Missile Silo 5, SAM 6, Warship 7, Aircraft Carrier V. Ctrl + click opens the build menu at the cursor, and middle click upgrades the nearest building (hold to keep upgrading). The full list is on the controls page.
Ranked maps have no nations, so your opponent arrives within minutes. A City for troops is still first, but get a Defense Post facing your opponent early, and add a Port on maps with a lot of coast. See how ranked works.
When boats keep landing on your coast, or when rival warships start picking off your trade ships. One warship per port keeps the water near your trade routes clear. It costs 250K, rising by 250K each to a 1M cap.
Once your second port is paying and you have a Missile Silo deep inside your land, an Atom Bomb (750K) is a useful threat. Save for a Hydrogen Bomb (5M) when someone is approaching 80%. Press T before every launch to check for enemy SAM cover. More in how nukes work.
Yes, once your ports reach three levels. An Air Raid (150K) can remove the SAM guarding your nuke target, and a Nuke Bomber (750K) aimed at an enemy warship or carrier locks on and follows it.
